OpenSDR runs OpenSDR, a network of radio receivers that volunteers set up. This page explains what we store about you, why, and for how long. We do not sell data, show advertising or use analytics or tracking services.
Listening
You can listen without an account. When you tune in, we store:
- the station, receiver, frequency and mode you chose, and when you started and stopped listening;
- whether you used the website or the app;
- a one-way code made from your IP address with a secret key. It lets us count how many different people listened without storing the address itself, and cannot be turned back into it.
We keep this listening history for 90 days so station owners can see how their station is used. We do not record the audio you listen to.
Station owners
If you register to run a station, we store:
- your name, email address, optional phone number and a protected (hashed) copy of your password;
- your stations: their name, call sign, description and the location you enter. The location is shown publicly on the map, so enter an approximate position if you prefer;
- technical reports from your station's Raspberry Pi: software version, temperature, load, power warnings, connected receivers and network round-trip time, kept for 7 days;
- a history of changes to your stations (who changed what and when), kept for 365 days;
- sign-in tokens for the app, which expire and which you can end by signing out;
- while a new Pi is being linked to your account, its network name and IP address, deleted a day after the claim code expires.
We use your email address to confirm your account, reset your password and contact you about your stations.
Technical data
- Our server logs IP addresses and requests to keep the service secure and to fix problems. Logs are deleted after 14 days.
- We limit how often an address may call the service; these counters last a few minutes.
- The website sets cookies only to keep you signed in and to protect forms (a session cookie and a security token). No advertising or tracking cookies.
- Error reports, when enabled, go to our error-tracking service without your IP address.
Other services
- Fonts are loaded from Bunny Fonts (fonts.bunny.net), which receives your IP address to deliver them and does not log it.
- Only when you open the map view on the home page, map tiles are loaded from the OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive your IP address (see the OpenStreetMap Foundation's privacy policy). The globe and the list load nothing from other sites.
- In the owner panel, profile pictures without an upload are drawn by ui-avatars.com from your name.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, for corrections, or for your account and stations to be deleted. Owners can edit their details in the owner panel. Write to us at noreply@opensdr.online.
